Working at Meta, specifically at WhatsApp has been an eye-opening joyride. I love the product work aimed at increasing privacy on WhatsApp, the world-class designers I get to collaborate with and the fabulous campuses I get to visit.
In a disappearing message, you can now keep messages from disappearing.
Lock and hide your most private chats on WhatsApp. Use your fingerprint or Face/Touch ID to make sure these chats are secure whenever you hand your phone to someone.
This project aimed to add even more privacy to your locked chats with a secret code.
We rolled out chat lock mid-year in 2023 and launched secret code later that year to further protect those chats and make them harder to find if someone has access to your phone.
For this work, I helped my team create trust signals for users receiving messages from unknown accounts. These clues help indicate if a sender is suspicious and can’t be trusted. This card also provides a simple way to add, block or find more info on how to stay safe on WhatsApp.
This simple addition of a trust signals card to all first messages from unknown accounts has helped increase privacy sentiment on WhatsApp!
